Conspiracy of Silence

“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepares for it today”- Malcolm X

With education you can conquer the world on your own. Once a child is born, he or she has learned the importance of education in their life, especially, in today’s fast and high tech life, where knowledge, is very important to keep up with its pace.

“ Without education, we are in horrible, and deeply danger of taking educated people seriously” G.K. Chesterton

We all work hard to get acknowledgements by our teachers, parents, superiors and peers. We all need to keep up with the world because it’s advancing very fast with new technology, scientific researches, and discoveries every other day. But with all this going on around us, the cost to get education is increasing year by year and it’s getting hard for people to afford education anymore and bears its fruits.

“Education is that which remains when once has forgotten everything he learned in school” Albert Einstein

Comparing the first year tuition rate for different universities the average cost of tuition for first year begins at $26,000, but it changes depending on your major and your progress from first year to the next. To afford the education many students take out the student loans. Public and private loans with fixed and unfixed interest rates. Which eventually become burdens on the students, because there are not many high paid jobs available for newly graduated students. Majority of the open positions are either unpaid internship, volunteering, or part-time with minimum wages. Which is not enough, even after working 40+ hours a week, it only covers rent and bills but still not enough to cover loan payments. After graduation I wrote this poem:

I went to school,

To earn a degree,

To fulfill the life,

It was once my dream.

I was so confident,

That the time had come,

To say good bye,

To all my struggles and hardships in life,

But it all went away,

With a blink of an eye,

When I had no job,

And the bills came by.

I wake up everyday,

With a hope in my eyes,

The brightness of the day fills my heart,

And the worry dies. (Aqsa Saleem)

Most of the corporate firms look for an experienced individual even for an entry-level position, which makes it harder for students to find a job right after graduation at their dream company.

“Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education” Martin Luther King

Education is one of the most important aspects of once life, but as the world advancing into new era of science and technology, with this improvement the cost of tuition is also rising which is not only leading to an increase in number of drop out students from universities but also leading an increase in ratio of low income families.

Higher Education = Higher Debt

Due to unemployment and economic crisis with in the country, many youngsters are suffering from symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and phobia.

“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think” Margaret Mead

By looking at this situation, there is only one thing students are forced to think about, which is debt, bills, and interest rate.

As a proud graduate we all hope that everything will go as we planned, but in the real world it’s not quite possible, as time passes we see our dreams shatter into pieces like a broken glass and than we realize that we are running out of options and time to take a major action to put thing where they belong. After graduating in 2012, I have also experienced these problems and had to deal with this issue for a long time. That is one of the reasons, I have decided to address this problem among my peers.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” Nelson Mandela
